Alejandro Perez, a former DM (Dungeon Master) of two campaigns currently has rule over the rules. Dungeons and dragons, a tabletop roleplaying game where many current groups use the ‘rule of cool’, in this article we will begin going into how small dnd groups rules all come from one member of their adventuring party.
Their group is made up of 4-5 player’s where instead of turning to the books they turn to Alejandro. The group is convinced that Alejandro has read the books front to back, however aftering getting comment from Alejandro himself it couldn’t be further from the truth. In actuality he has read only 3 and of those he has not read them all the way though. He himself doesn’t think the others have read the books but he doesn’t mind clarifying rules even if he sometimes gets them wrong.
Although it may seem like Alejandro just decides the rules, his power doesn’t come from the book but rather the other players in the game. Ivy, a current DM and player in their group states “I’m glad the rules are just guides and for our group we like going with whatever Alejandro says as it’s often more fun for us.” Their small group is full of people who have difficulty reading the books and others who have troubles remembering so for them allowing Alejandro to be their god of rules isn’t him controlling their game but helping them understand the game in an easier and more accessible way.
